YOSHIS ISLAND SMASH MANUAL
This move's name is given as Hip Drop (based on the japanese name for the Ground Pound) in Yoshi's in-game character profile, but it's called Bomb on the manual (likely a mistake). If used on the ground, Yoshi will jump forward before dropping down. Down - Bomb/Hip Drop: Based on his Ground Pound attack from Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, he smashes straight downward into the ground, causing great damage and producing small stars for additional damage. Also in most cases in the original games the eggs would be thrown straight, unaffected by gravity, the only exception being during the final battle against Giant Baby Bowser. This is based on his attack from Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, however he originally needed to eat an enemy to lay an egg before being able to throw it, while here the eggs just appear in his hand for him to throw. Up - Egg Throw: Yoshi launches an egg upwards in an arc, which can be angled along a variety of trajectories. This move is based on his ability to swallow enemies and turn them into eggs from Yoshi's Island. Neutral - Egg Lay: Yoshi eats the opponent like in his grab move, but instead of spitting them he swallows them to then lay them insde an egg, leaving them open for attack (though they only receive 50% damage), and can be used to put opponents off-stage.This is a reference to the animation he makes after sniffing for a buried secret in Yoshi's Story. He also has a taunt where he spins around and waves his arms up and down. This is based on his signature move from Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island. His grab move consists of him lauching his tongue forward and pulling the opponent into his mouth to then throw them out.

Like in Yoshi's Island he can float after jumping, but for obvious gameplay reasons his floating ability is not as effective. This references yoshis being found in eggs in Super Mario World, as referenced with his on-screen appearance, and their ability to retract into eggs shown in Yoshi's Island when Baby Mario transforms into Superstar Mario and in Yoshi's Story after eating a Turbo Tulip.

Notably, he's the only character to have a shield different than a bubble of energy, instead he retracts into an egg, that works differently, not allowing him to jump, but not shrinking when damaged. His special attacks are based on his abilities in Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, but he has an original set of punches, kicks, headbutts and tail sweeps as his basic moves. His look is based on his cameo appearance in Super Mario 64. and is the only one rapresenting the Yoshi franchise. Yoshi is one of the eight starting characters in Super Smash Bros. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES).Yoshis come in a rainbow cloud of colors and are said to have a high IQ from a very early age. He uses his unique ability to turn whatever he swallows into an egg as his foremost attack. He began as Mario's partner, but has since built his own identity, and now appears in many games. Yoshi is the friendly dinosaur of Yoshi's Island.
